Is 10X easier?

With our Slight Edge Advantage approach, we’re developing a game changer with the concept of multiplying by ten… or twelve. What would your existence look like if it was increased 10x? 12x? The principle behind it is to get you thinking on a deeper level and to create new possibilities for yourself.

Let’s play a bit with this. Is 10x easier than 2x? Is it really easier to increase your income by a factor of ten than it is to double it? Similarly, how much harder is lifting 310 pounds than 300 pounds? Both require a ton of effort and training. If you’re not putting in the work, neither is achievable.

So how do we make 10x or 12x probable? One of our clients is over-the-top with his workouts and focus on fitness, including SEAL Fit. He’s 10x to 12x ahead of most of us. He’s putting in the effort: “When you set a goal and tell the world, there’s no way to fail. Once I shared publicly, I knew I had to stick to it. Failure wasn’t an option. When I put it out there and signed up for the program, my training regime changed immediately.”

First distinction toward achieving 10x or 12x: public declaration.

Next, his participation in SEAL Fit came at a cost; the program isn’t free. Plus he incurs travel expenses. No refunds for not showing up. Next distinction: skin in the game. The program also has a specific time and place. Distinction: a deadline.

Another big part of the program, and possibly far greater than physical ability is the mental state. Ask yourself this: Is my mind protecting me from my own greatness? Biologically, your mind wants you to survive, so it protects your body. It’s hardwired. Giving 100 percent is not easy. It requires exertion, and your mind wants to protect you from that. You have to get out of your head, set your ego aside, and take one more step, do one more rep. When you can do that, it’s amazing what you can accomplish.

Now that brings us back to 10x being easier than 2x. It’s simply not true. However, if we can focus on what’s possible and execute the daily and weekly activities, we bring that larger target closer and into existence. If you want to drive your business forward and make more money, you must determine how you need to break down the goal into daily metrics. How do you know each day that you’re moving forward?

If you make $2 million a year, in order to get to $10 million, you must first make $3, then $4, then $5 million, etc. There’s numerological progression. Achieving 10x isn’t easier than 2x, but once you put the structure in place, you may discover it’s easier to go from 2x to 10x than it was to achieve 2x in the first place.

Where do you want the 10x or 12x growth? Most advisors might answer production, so let’s look at that. You want to go to $10 million in production. Start by determining the constraints and what else is needed to support that goal. For example, you need staff, technology, an office, messaging on what sets you apart, and a good ecosystem. Determine the service level you’ll provide and then how many clients you need to reach $10 million. Your calendar may become a constraint. How much time do you need to handle appointments? Do you need to switch gears from quality to quantity, and do you want to do that? Will your fundamental business model support you? You must also determine what you need to let go.

And here’s the really interesting question: What are you going to do with the money? Answer the why. No matter if you want to 10x your finances, relationships, or business, knowing why is the most important distinction. Is your reason strong enough for you to leverage to actually take action and execute? And are you being honest with yourself?

Start working now toward 10x.
