Stay in your lane Grasshopper

Stay in your lane Grasshopper, stay in your lane.

Why do you book calendar appointments with clients or prospects? The simple reason is so that you both show up prepared or at least semi-prepared and you focus on each other. Now notice you only schedule one person at a time for an appointment. Why? So that you focus on them. The only reason you book an appointment in the first place is that there is inherent value in the interaction. If you have a client appointment, you also do not take incoming calls or check your text messages unless, of course, you are a yutz. If you are a yutz, your business is much harder than it needs to be. But I know some of you enjoy being a yutz. To each his own.

What does your calendar say you have to do today? And are you doing it? Are you staying in your lane, focused on that item or that client, or are you being interrupted and bifurcated? Or are you allowing yourself to be interrupted and bifurcated? Are you spewing attention everywhere, or are you staying in your lane and doing what’s important? Is your day unfolding by design or randomly? Are you doing heroic work or going through the motions? What kind of day would achieve your goals? A random one or a designed one?

Allow your calendar to free you. Stay in your lane. Turn off your phone and email, and focus on what you need to be doing. With love, I’ll share that you are not that important. More than likely, you are not in the business of life and death. Focus, Grasshopper, focus. You do not have much bandwidth for focused and heroic work, so invest it wisely and stay in the lane of your calendar.

If you are struggling to allow your calendar to free you — or even to understand how that is possible, reach out to Getting Results. We fully understand the connection between calendars and results and will be happy to share that with you.
