Want to Build a Bigger, Better Business?
Everybody wants a great business and to make more money. That’s pretty universal. And that said, to have a great business, you must be a great man or great woman. No one can be bigger than their money. Before we dive any deeper, we have to define what a great person is.
Here are the distinctions of a great person, as I see them, and I think you’ll agree:
First, they honor their commitments and keep their word.
Second, they are responsible for all of their outcomes.
Third, they’re coachable. The look for feedback and apply it. When you’re coachable, it shows open-mindedness.
To have a better business, be a better person first. To have a great business, be a great person first.
In achieving that, you must embrace the whole—body, mind, and spirit. You cannot simply focus on your business without also focusing on your physical, emotional, and spiritual self.
Keep in mind, also, that people want to come alongside of you and work with you when you are doing good. When you are, the universe always works in your favor. If you’re working to simply line your pockets and build your bank account, it will always be a difficult struggle and success is not guaranteed. People notice when you give back. Be a force for good.
Tell the truth. Always. Those who are great embrace the truth.
Circling back, your business will never be bigger—or greater—than you. If you grade yourself as a six, for example, your business will never be a seven. If you want a bigger, better business, you must work on yourself first. That is always the formula. Work on yourself and your business will follow.
Which is more important: Being a person of honor and integrity or pulling in a hundred grand or so a month? The irony in that question is that once you’re a person of honor, everything flows from that, and you can have both. Wealth becomes a side effect of your honor. You will have arrived. Without honor and integrity, you will always be struggling to reach the destination you desire. Honor and integrity will always create a beneficial upward spiral. And way leads on to way.
